1965 Deluxe Microbus - Twenty-One Windows and One Sunroof

Sunroof assembly

The sunroof was available for several models: 225, 228, 235-244.

My goal for this page was to document all the parts and pieces of the sunroof, a.k.a. sliding ragtop, assembly for my '65 bus. In some cases I link to images from others who have sold sunroofs and sunroof parts on various websites. As I rebuild my sunroof, I'll be replacing these images with my own, or those from manuals.

There are very few differences between early and late sunroof assemblies. The most obvious difference is in the Golde handle design - shown above-left and below-left of the sunroof assembly below. These differences are also noted in the parts listing below.

All part numbers beginning with a "1" or "N" are common parts for beetles and buses. Parts beginning with "2" are bus-only items.

If you're rebuilding a top, expect to pay about $60 for the "slider kit" from Wolfsburg West (#241875000).

Add another $39 for the front inner sliding blocks (#115875335B).

The newer versions are made of teflon.

The guide rails have begun to be reproduced and are available in a kit (long and short rails) through BFY Obsolete.
